Angie Smith was born and raised in Fergus Falls and graduated from FFHS in 1994. After graduation, Angie attended the University of Minnesota Duluth where she received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry and then went east to attend the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. After obtaining her MD, Angie moved back to Minnesota and completed a residency and fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology/blood and marrow transplant at the University of Minnesota. During her fellowship, she was fortunate enough to be able to obtain her Masters in Clinical Research from the School of Public Health. Angie finally got her first “real” job in 2008 as an Assistant Professor in the Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant division at the University of Minnesota. During her 13-year tenure at the University of Minnesota, she had the privilege of taking care of children with cancer and other rare diseases as they underwent stem cell transplants, while at the same time doing clinical research aimed at decreasing transplant related complications and understanding better ways to treat children with very rare genetic diseases. In 2021, Angie made a career pivot and now focuses solely on research, specifically oncology drug development, at Syndax Pharmaceuticals. Angie and her husband, Kristian Olson, have two children, Charlie (10 years old) and Thea (8 years old), and two dogs (Benny and Maisy), and currently live in Mendota Heights, MN. Outside of work, they spend most of their time carting Charlie and Thea around to their respective activities, and spending time with family and friends.
