2024 Hall of Fame Inductees

Teresa (Terry) Rasmussen (‘74) is president and chief executive officer of Thrivent, a Fortune 500 diversified financial services organization. She is a member of the Thrivent Board of Directors and serves on its Governance and Executive committees. Under Rasmussen’s leadership, Thrivent is transforming into a holistic financial services organization, helping current and future generations achieve financial clarity, enabling lives full of meaning and gratitude. Before her current role, Rasmussen was president of Thrivent’s core life, health and annuities business after serving 10 years as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. Prior to joining Thrivent, Rasmussen held a series of leadership roles at American Express, including serving as vice president and managing counsel. Earlier in her career, she was a trial attorney with the United States Department of Justice, Tax Division, as part of the Attorney General’s Honors Program. She is on the American Council of Life Insurers Board of Directors where she serves on the Executive, Finance and Compensation, and Internal Compliance committees and co-chairs the Steering committee on Consumer Issues. Rasmussen is an independent member of the board of directors for H.B. Fuller Company, a $2.9 billion global adhesives and specialty chemical products company, and serves on the Audit and Governance committees of the board. Rasmussen is also on the board of the Walker Art Center, a world-renowned contemporary art museum in Minneapolis, where she serves as a member of the Audit and Finance committees. She previously served as a board member for the International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation. Rasmussen received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Minnesota State University Moorhead. After passing the CPA exam, she earned her Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota. Terry is married to Jon Trangsrud and they have two adult children.

Nate Linscheid, FFHS Class of 1990, has been involved in the sport of swimming since age seven and was fortunate to be on some great teams both at Fergus Falls High School and St. Olaf College where he was coached by some of the state’s best coaches – whose influence led him into teaching and coaching. His coaching career started in 1994 with the girls team at Visitation High School (where he still coaches in the fall) and a four year stint as an assistant with the boys team at Mounds View High School. Then in 2000, he was hired as the head boys swim coach at Bloomington Jefferson where he is also a physics and earth science teacher. In total, he has coached 58 seasons, and over the past 30 years, his Visitation team has won 22 Section Championships, 11 True Team State Titles, and 14 MSHSL Class A State Titles. He’s been the State Coach of the Year five times and in 2023, he was named the NHSACA National High School Swimming Coach of the Year. He’s been blessed to have been able to work with very talented groups of young women and men over the many years who have blended skill, work ethic and selflessness. In addition, he has also had a lot of help from a great group of assistant coaches along the way including his sister, former Otter great Naomi (Linscheid) Hamer (‘93), former Visitation swimmer Meghan Kemna and his wife, Julie, who has been the Visitation diving coach for 21 years. Nate, Julie and their two sons, Jakob and Markus, live in Apple Valley, MN.

Erika (Magnusson) Ellison (’09) started skating at the age of four. She played varsity hockey starting in 8th grade and was All-Conference three times. In 2008, she participated in the USA U17 Girls’ Hockey National Development Camp and in the final USA U18 Women’s Hockey Team Try-Outs. During the 2008-2009 season, Erika was co-captain of the first Fergus Falls Girls’ Hockey Team to compete in the Class A State Tournament. She was named Fergus Falls High School’s Female Athlete of the Year, was a Top-10 Finalist for Miss Hockey Minnesota, was All-State Honorable Mention, and made the All-State Tournament Team and the All-State Academic Team. Following high school, Erika competed with the Minnesota State University-Mankato Division 1 Women’s Ice Hockey Team. In 2023, she earned a PhD in Plant Biology from the University of Minnesota and is currently a National Science Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellow working as a research scientist at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

Rob (’74) and Gretchen Bigwood‘s involvement with competitive swimming goes back more than 50 years. Rob was on the first ever Otter Boys High School Swim Team and Gretchen was on the first ever White Bear Lake Girls High School Swim Team. Their continuing and extensive involvement with swimming has included 25 years of leadership with the Fergus Falls Flyers, as well as raising three successful Otter swimmers. For over 30 years, they have continued to give their time at all Otter and Flyers home swim meets, with Rob running the timing system and Gretchen announcing, a role they continue to this day. They have been and continue to be strong advocates for the sport of swimming in Fergus Falls.
