Dear Fergus Falls High School Alumni and Friends,
Our Middle School Band Program has seen rapid growth over the past couple years. With an increase in students comes an increased need for school instruments for families who cannot afford to buy/rent. While we are able to purchase a limited number of instruments each year, our supply is quickly running out. One out of every five 5th grade band students is currently using a school-owned instrument. With 5th grade band numbers exceeding 100 students over the past three years, we are concerned about running out of instruments as early as next school year.
We are reaching out to you today to ask if you would consider donating an instrument back to the band. In addition to giving students in need a chance to participate, the school will write a tax receipt so you can reap the financial benefits during tax season. Simply drop the instrument off in the front office with your attached “Instrument Donation Form.”
Although our greatest needs are flutes, clarinets, alto saxophones, trumpets, and double French horns, any band instrument will help. Please do not be deterred if the instrument is in rough shape. We will handle any repairs necessary. We do not need any keyboard (piano) instruments.
If you no longer have an instrument, but you are able to make a financial contribution toward purchasing one, please send a check made out to Band Boosters with instrument purchase in the memo line. It can be sent to the school in care of any of the directors. The cost of a beginner student instrument ranges from $500-$1300 depending on the instrument.
If you have questions, let us know. Our goal is to never turn a student away from band because of financial difficulties. Any help you can give is appreciated.
Denise Wiese, Joshua McGowan, and Scott Kummrow
